Healthy Dog Food
How to Choose Healthy Dog Food
When it comes to your pet’s health, it is important to ensure proper nutrition. Start by switching to healthy dog food. Poor nutrition has been linked to many health problems. As such, it makes sense to pay attention to what you feed your pets.
But, how do you choose healthy dog food? Start with the formulation. You want to ensure that the largest part of the formulation consists of proteins, followed by fruits and vegetables. Look for packaging that states the percentage of protein and lists protein first.
Our formulation, for instance, includes 60% protein, 40% fruits and vegetables, and 0% grains. Why the focus on protein? The ancestral diet of canines did not include all the additives of modern pet foods. Dogs in the wild hunted and scavenged. Meat formed a large part of their diets. It thus goes without saying that your canine’s food should contain protein as the base. Our recipes replicate the ancestral diet of dogs, using several meats in addition to bones, cartilage, and organs. With such, your pets get the diversity they need to ensure good nutrition.
The second factor to consider in your search is that of production. How is it made? This is the question you want answered. Our kibble is prepared in small batches to ensure that every bag of kibble contains the right amount of protein and is as fresh as it can get. Small quantities are steam cooked in the natural juices of the ingredients and we do not add water.
Also, consider where the manufacturing plant is located. Imported food takes longer to reach the end user than food produced in the country. The products are manufactured and then shipped to the warehouse from where they are distributed. If transported by sea, the products can take several weeks to arrive. Once in the country, the food is stored at the port and then in a warehouse. Only then can it be distributed to the various retailers. The products can then be on the shelves for several more months before you buy them.
When you buy from a local manufacturer, the time between production and consumption is significantly reduced. This means that even if the product is on the shelf for a while, it is still fresh enough for safe consumption. Products that are produced locally are usually also priced better.
It is easy to label a product as healthy, but what substantiates the producer’s claim of the food being nutrient rich and healthy? To this end, buy a product made according to strict production, food, and safety regulations.
Our products are made according to strict standards for health, safety, and quality. We have FSSC 22000 certification (achieved in 2015). To ensure ongoing compliance, we have regular management reviews and undergo audits. In addition, we adhere to strict HACCP regulations, thus ensuring regular health and safety checks throughout the production process.
